Professional Work

Sample Newsletter

6/13/2019

At Applied Medical, I was responsible for writing, editing, and designing the department newsletter each month. This involved reaching out to all managers for team member or product news, compiling the information, and then producing updates in the form of bulleted lists or articles, as appropriate. Some months, team members would send me fully-fledged articles, and I would copy-edit them and then gather them together into a logical order. Othertimes, when content was thin, I developed my own articles as well as interactive elements to work into the newsletter. When I took the project on, I experimented with format and style, gathering feedback from team members every time. This allowed me to hone in on the optimal design.

Due to contractual restrictions, I can't post any newsletters which I have written for clients. Instead, I have written a sample newsletter. For this, I decided to write for a fictional software company - Luxxor. Luxxor is a startup based around an innovative app (Lux) which functions as a limited learning AI meant to organize client's homes, lives, and companies across systems and devices. Their quarterly newsletter is meant for external communication with their clients, full of company updates as well as blog posts and news about software developments.

Welcome!
For those of you that are just joining us, welcome! For those of you who have long been a part of the Luxxor family, welcome back! This quarterly newsletter serves as a general update so you know all about the new changes we have made as well as any we have in the works.

Company Updates

We're excited to announce a new addition to our team! Jenae Whitaker will be joining our Software Development team as a UX/UI designer. Jenae comes to us with three years of experience and will bring a fresh new outlook to our team. Jenae is a self-confessed old movie buff who enjoys long hikes along the South Carolina coast with her dog Marlowe.

This expansion comes as we look to more flesh out our Software Development team to continue to meet the ever-expanding needs of our client base as we continue to push the bounds of Luxxor's capabilities and customizable interface.

Who are we again?

With a new influx of users, we've realized that it's probably time for a reintroduction. Hi! We're Luxxor. We make an AI (Lux) for your life. It works with both iPhones and Androids, both Google Home and Alexa. And more importantly, it learns from you. It can sync calendars across your family's devices, and if you add an item to your calendar, it will ask if you want to create an invite on everyone's device, regardless of the operating system.

Helpful tip! Lux can be used to help little ones settle down for bed in a bedtime routine. Once it learns your patterns, it can prompt you with teeth brushing reminders and bedtime stories. So when you leave your kids with a baby sitter, you can rest easy knowing that their schedule will remain in place.

Lux is more than a mere coordinator, though. With Lux, everyone can be on their own device, but messages, alerts, photos, even entertainment is equally available. And each Lux can talk to each other! So if there's some unexpected traffic on the morning drive to school, your Lux will let the carpool know you're running a couple minutes behind.

Common routines can also be nicknamed, to speed things up. "Wake up the family" could mean that different wake up playlists begin in each room while the weather forecast is 'pushed' to each family member's phone. "Dinner time" might mean that all phones are put on 'do not disturb' mode while a different playlist starts playing in the dining area or maybe it starts up the latest episode of a tv show in the living room.

Lux can be whatever you need it to be, and that doesn't have to remain stagnant! We're constantly looking for ways to make Lux better as we continue to push the bounds of AI technology. If you have a feature you'd like to see added, or maybe one that is your favorite, please let us know! Just check out our "Contact Us" page here for more details.

Welcome to the Luxxor family!

Product Updates

We now have native integration with most major smart lights! Third party additions have long been a part of Lux's capabilities, but this new integration makes for much smoother and nuanced control. You can set a timer on the lights in your child's bedroom at night for some quiet reading. When their time is up, they can ask Lux for more time. Lux will then send a notification to your device and it is up to you to accept or decline their request.

We've also improved Lux's voice recognition. Individual permissions can be set for each user, and override codes can also be added to certain functionalities.

In addition, we continue to make tweaks and corrections to Lux's code to smooth everything and improve the user experience.

Coming Up!

In partnership with the culinary team at Blue Apron, Lux is coming to your kitchen! Soon Lux will be able to suggest menus for your week, based on your family's eating habits. These menus are ready for you to confirm or change, and you can choose any or all of the ingredients to be shipped from Blue Apron to your doorstep. The remaining ingredients or meals will be added to your grocery list. Look for this exciting new development sometime in the next quarter.

We have many more exciting plans in store, but unfortunately we can't talk about them quite yet. You'll be the first to know!
